Hi!

I am completely new to Drupal so please forgive the misuse of technical language here.  I am creating a very simple page using the Yale Wide theme design.  I started setting up the basic structure.  I want to create a menu that will permanently appear as users navigate through the page….on the Left Side.  I thought this was referred to as the “Sidebar” but now looking through the forum I am not sure that is what it is called.  I am now familiar with Blocks.  What block should I use to create this menu?  How do I create the pages that will contain the content for each menu item?

Here is the link to the old Dev site that has the menu on the left side.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hello Esther,

Drupal has by default two sidebars which are called Sidebar First (Left) and Sidebar Second (Right). The reason why your front page does not show the Sidebar First is because the Front Page uses a Delta, which is what causes the Front Page to look different than all the other pages in your site. You can modify the Delta to show the Sidebar First instead of the Sidebar Second and move your menu block to the left.

To create pages that will contain the content for the menu items you’d create Basic Pages. If you are unfamiliar with Drupal I would recommend the following training, Build A YaleSites Workshop & Editing your YaleSite. These can be found in the YaleSites Calendar and can help you familiarize with the YaleSites features and how to make edits to your YaleSite.
