Replicating horizontal menu from a different YaleSites theme

I would like to use the appearance of the horizontal menu at the top of the page as displayed In YaleSites 2016 Wide, but in YaleSites 2016 standard. That is, I’d like the menu to have a black background with white letters. Alas, I can’t figure out how to do this. Can you give me some guidance?

It is possible that this would require some customization on the site. We are looking into the possibility.
