Dear Madam or Sir,

We had to migrate our Lab website from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7.

The URL of the old Drupal 6 website is: http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu/

The URL of the new Drupal 7 website is: http://carlsonlab.yale.edu/

Now, the migration to Drupal 7 is completed and the new website http://carlsonlab.yale.edu/ functional.

I put the old website http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu/ in offline mode. If people try to access the old website, it now says “Site off-line”.

Could you please assist us with the following points?

1. We would like to remove the old Drupal 6 website so that it is not visible under the URL http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu/ anymore?

2. We would like to have the old Drupal 6 website stored in an archive.

3. We would like to redirect visitors that enter the URL http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu automatically to our new Drupal 7 website’s URL http://carlsonlab.yale.edu.

3. We would like to increase the visibility of our new Lab website (Drupal 7) on Google?

4. How can we get rid of the listing of our old Lab website (Drupal 6) on Google?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Jonas

Hi Jonas,

We will put in a ticket to redirect http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu to http://carlsonlab.yale.edu.

Regarding the questions about increasing your visibility, I will speak to Josue Rodriques who should be able to help you with this.

Hello Jonas,

Kimberly has put in a request for the URL:  http://carlson-lab.sites.yale.edu/ to forward to http://carlsonlab.yale.edu/

As for your questions, is there anything in the Drupal 6 site to save? We went to it and only saw a front page stating the site wasn’t available.

That would just leave two questions:

3. We would like to increase the visibility of our new Lab website (Drupal 7) on Google? First of you should enable the Google Analytics Module on your site, Google Analytics allows you to monitor site visits and site performance. To use Google Analytics you must first create an account here

4. How can we get rid of the listing of our old Lab website (Drupal 6) on Google? Google Indexes all websites approximately once per month. Once they index your new URL and notice its also the same as the older URL it will eventually replace both the listings and the archives of the old site. In a few months your old content will not show up in the search results.

Hi Josue,

Thank you very much for your reply, advice, and for putting in a forwarding request! I highly appreciate your help.

Regarding saving the old Drupal 6 site, I first thought it might be good to store the old site in an offline archive. However, paying more thoughts to it, I think it is not necessary, since all the contents of the old site plus additional material are now on the new Drupal 7 site.

Thank you very much,

Jonas
