I want to recreate the following page http://seasia.coursepress.yale.edu/course-portal/course-bibliography/ which uses V2 to block access to the links to pdf files on that page. The funcationality needed is that the public can view the list of articles but not access the pdfs - only students who login and the administrator should be able to access that list. 

I’ve created the private file directory, but I don’t know how to provide both public and private views on the same page. Ideally, the list would be there and even the links but when a non-logged in user clicks, they are not allowed to view the pdfs.

Possible?

Is there a way for me to set permissions on the system/files/private so that things uploaded to that directory are not viewable by the public? 

I was considering creating a Private content type with the private file upload field - creating that list of pdfs and placing them in a block with access permissions on them - I can create a basic page with the list without links and provide the block on the second sidebar that only shows up when students login 

am I complicating it?
