People menu missing new people type

Hi, we’re having difficulties getting the people menu to reflect a new people type. We added the Emeritus Faculty field type in configuration. Then in views (people page and dynamic people listing), we added the people type under filter criteria. However, the left menu bar doesn’t reflect this — no Emeritus Faculty nav tab. We have only assigned one person (Victor Bers) to this people type as a test but it should nevertheless show. Grateful for your help.
