Linking People to News and Publications
Hi,
I spoke with Carris about this at our office hours, but I’m happy to work with anyone who can help.
I had originally created my own content type for our Fellows, but I was advised by Carris to move them over to People instead. I did that, and I have about 20 uploaded that we can work with as samples.
My hope is that we can cross-list People (Fellows), News, and Publications. In other words, I want a section or block on each Fellow’s page showing any news articles they wrote or are featured in as well as a section or block with any publications they contributed to. I’m not as concerned with links in the opposite direction right now.
Please let me know how complicated this would be to set up. Carris mentioned you might have a template? Does it involve taxonomy? Relationships? These are functions that I know basically zero about, and I’d love to learn if you have resources.
Please help me get started on this; I’m happy to meet again for office hours if needed.
Thanks,
Devon
Hi, Devon:
This could be achieved in the following way:
1. In the Content type for both Publications and News, a field must be added to ‘tag’ (I have used an entity reference for the Author) the Pub or News item with the author.
2. In each View (Pub and News), use the Contextual Filter (under Advanced) to add the field you added above.
3. Configure the Block for the correct pages.
I am thinking that we should meet for office hours to get you started on this. It could be a little tricky depending on the build of the site.
Or I could start it by doing the one for Publications and you could use what I do as a guide to make the one for news.
Let me know what works for you. Maybe even a phone call would work, if office hours don’t work for you.
Best regards,
Carris
Okay I think this makes sense to me. Let me play around and try it and we can schedule something if it doesn’t work or I have questions. I am going to try News first since I have those authors in the system, whereas most Publications authors haven’t been entered yet.
Thanks!
