Link News item to external URL

Hello,

On the homepage under “Feature Resources” and at http://wellness.yale.edu/learn-more/news, I would like the title of the news items to redirect directly to an external page. I realize that right now, the view is not letting me do this since I have content within the “body” field. Is there a way to keep this descriptor text while also still linking out to an external page? Thank you.

Hello Liz,

In the news page, you need to enable the Field Redirection module and then set the External Link field to Redirect > HTTP status code 301 - permanently moved (default) in the News Content Type under Manage Display.

As for the homepage, you need to do a re-write of the Title field and link it to [field_link_to_external_story]. Let me know if that works for you.

Hi Josue,

Thanks! I’m still having trouble with both displays. I set the redirect link on the news page, but it still didn’t work. For now, I’m displaying the URL as an interim solution.

I’m also still having trouble with the home page news. Any chance you could take a look? I’d like the title to link directly out. Thanks!

Hello Liz,

There are several parts to your problem. First the field used should have been External Link. I’ve corrected that in the site and also changed the format to Redirect in Manage Display. There were also some issues with the view settings that needed tweaking. My apologies I shoulda added more detail in regards to that section. I’ve already fixed the settings.

The 2nd part is that the redirect would not work until the site is taken out of Maintenance Mode. I’ve confirmed by disabling Maintenance Mode and verifying the links work. Feel free to test them by adding the proper URL paths to the External Link field.
