How do we sort the types of people on this page, so that Faculty comes first, then staff and students, and lastly alumni?  It was sorted like this before, but as soon as we added new people and moved some previous people into alumni, the category orders changed.

Hi Jessica,

I can help you sort your people page. We can schedule office hours do discuss how best to do this. Can you send a list in the order you’d like them before we meet?

Here’s a sample page to show you that they don’t have to be in alphabetical order, as I suspect you’d like for that to be the case. https://statistics.yale.edu/people

I’m available for an hour  Thursday (4/12), between 12:00pm and 4:00pm and Friday (4-13) between 1:30pm and 3:00pm. Please let me know if any of those times work for you.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your response! I unfortunately am not available during those hours that you just included above.  When are you available early next week?

Best,

Jessica

I’m available  next Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 1pm - 4pm. Let me know if you are free for an hour during those times. Also, we may get through this faster, if you can send me the people type list order.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

How about next Wednesday, April 18th at 1:00PM?

The list order would be:

Faculty

Staff

Postdocs

Graduate Students

Alumni

Thanks,

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

I just called your office to discuss logistics. Sure, I can do 1pm on April 18th. I’ll send an invite shortly. I can come to your office. I’ll bring by 13” MacBook pro, so it would be helpful if you had a monitor I could plug into, or perhaps we could work on your computer. If not, we could still do the work, but it’s easier with a screen that’s a bit larger.

There was one thing I wanted to ask you beforehand. Is the director married to being listed in the right sidebar? I ask because a sidebar menu works well there and allows for easy user navigation. We can do something like this https://environmentalhumanities.yale.edu/people/steering-committee, where Professor Kershaw is the only person at the top of the landing page (in this example there’s a whole committee, but you get the idea.) He would be prominently listed above faculty, and the first and only person you see when you click on people in the main menu. I think it’s a cleaner look. That’s my two cents. We can certainly leave it.

I also noticed that the view was created with the Draggable views module. We may not need the sidebar menu at all if you don’t want it. Anyway those are some things to consider.

I look forward to meeting you.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi Jessica,

I think I’ve got your People listing sorted properly. The view sort criteria settings for Draggableviews weight wasn’t quite right along with a couple of other settings. These are not things you should have to worry about as a content editor.

I added myself as Staff to see where it would land and it fell in line under staff, below Erin. I thought it would appear at the end of the list and that I’d have to drag it to its proper place, so that’s good that it populated in the correct group. I’ve removed it.

Did you want these listed in alphabetical order by last name or as they are? If so, let me know and I’ll adjust the sorting configuration.

With the changes I just made, you should now be able to drag people around with the handles to the left of each person. It’s cumbersome though. I found dragging people downward was easier than up, but either way was tricky.

Let me know if/when you want to have another call to discuss. I’m going to close out this ticket.

Best regards,

Chris Mongillo
