Dev Site for D7

To whom it may concern,

I recently submitted a “Go Live Request” with the following options enabled: 

      - Move my site to production
      - Move my Secure Site to production
      - Keep D7 dev environment
      - Keep D6 dev environment

I’m not exactly sure what the difference is between “site” and “Secure Site,” but I clicked them both. Is that okay?

Also, I elected to keep my D7 dev environment. If I need to edit something on the live site, do I edit it through the live one or the dev one? Is the dev one just a safe place to try a new feature without harming the live site? Will any changes on the dev site go to the live one?

Hello Christian,

your submission should be “Move my site to production” and should you want to keep a dev version of your D7 site you can select “Keep D7 dev environment”. All edits should be done in the live site. The dev site should be kept for testing only, like testing a new module or feature before trying it on the live site. I also recall you mentioning you wanted to keep the old D6 site for a while. That should also be notes in the Additional comments. If you didn’t do so, I think I can still talk to Kimberly to make that happen.
