Contextual Filters: Overriding title

Hi, I’ve added a Contextual Filter to a view and though I had it configured to override the page title, ‘Search Poynter Events’, so the title can overridden and include the YEAR, ‘Poynter Events 2015’. I did this successfully on the President’s site for ‘Notes from Woodbridge Hall’: http://president.yale.edu/speeches-writings/notes-woodbridge-hall/archive/2015. Could the part of the issue be that the contextual filter in the view on the Communications is related to a search function and the one on the President’s isn’t? Please let me know how I can correct this to make it work.

Thanks so much!

Jo

Just checking in to see if anyone was able to take a look.

Hi JoAnn, I will call you to discuss.

Hi JoAnn,

You actually can’t mix the Contextual Filters with the Filter Criteria, so adding the Year to the end of your title won’t work (assuming the Exposed Block is more important :-)

So I removed the Contextual Filter, and Grouped the list in the following way so the Year shows up at the top of the page:

  1. Add another date field, Exclude from display and set the format to Year only. This is the field you group by.
  2. In the Format section, click on Settings
  3. Select the 2nd date field added in the Grouping field Nr.1 field.
  4. Make sure the next two checkboxes are checked. (Otherwise each listing has the year on top).
