Is it possible to create a new theme for our website?

We are looking to either change the front page of the website to have the rotating header block be smaller in size and have two adjoining blocks: One for the picture and one for the caption, or (as a longer project perhaps) we are looking to see if we can make a new theme to have a calendar block on the left side of the page and a news block on the right side while making everything currently on the page shrunk down in width?

You can change the theme, but by what I read, it seems you just need to tweak the existing site. Would you like to discuss the changes?

Hi! Yes, on our page we’d like to add a calendar on one side of the page with our events, also we’d like to change the rotating header block such that the black caption block is solid and the picture would then be smaller. Currently the picture must be 978 x 350 and because of this the picture comes out very stretched. If we could changed that to a smaller width it would be nice.
