Dear Sir/Madam,

I was wondering if it’s possible to change the directing URL from gpss.yale.edu to senate.yale.edu please? And how long it may take? Thanks a lot!

Best,

Wenping

Hello Wenping,

That URL would have to go through approval. You’d have to first request the new URL via the Request a YaleSite form. In the “Additional Comments” you can add the specifics of your request as you’ve done here.

Josue

Hi Josue,

I have requested the new URL via a YaleSite form. To my understanding, it will change the directing URL but keep the other content the same. Is that correct? Thanks a lot!

Best,

Wenping

Hi Josue,

Thank you for helping us with changing the URL. I was wondering if it will be a global redirecting that once people type gpss.yale.edu or a page, it will direct to the new URL senate.yale.edu? Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Wenping

Hello Wenping,

It will not be a global redirect. You will literally have to copy the site over to the new URL, then do a redirect between the two. As for the URL, the use of senate.yale.edu will need to go through approval. You will hear shortly from the department that handles the URL requests to let you know if the URL has been approved and make suggestions of it hasn’t been approved.

Hi Josue,

Thank you for replying. Just to clarify what do you mean by copying the site over to a new URL? I thought you would help create a new page and then copy all the pages over to it? Therefore, the new URL will be functioning directly. Or should I copy over all of the pages manually, which might potentially take a while before the new semester starts? Thank you!

Best,

Wenping

Hello Wenping,

No we’d copy the entire site over. It will be a mirrir image of the old site.
