Can a Powerpoint Presentation be Cassified?

We have a number of powerpoint training slides that we would like to add to our Educational Opportunitites page, however, we would like to make them available only to Yale University members.  Additionally, we would like to have a link directly to the presentation, rather than posting all the presentations on a separate page and requiring the user to scroll down and select the appropriate training.  For example, on our Educational Opportunities page, we have “Introduction to Sponsored Projects Administration” as one course, Allocating Allowable Costs as another, and so on.  We have powerpoint slides for each of these and we would like to post the appropriate slides under each opportunity.  Is there a way to make it so that when someone launches the link to the presentation, they have to login?  I looked through the forum and drupal help sites and I see that you can make links to pages embedded that require a login, but this is different, I think, than what we would like to do.  Thank you.

So, I was actually able to require a login for the powerpoint presentation and it all worked great until I realized that I had to save the PP as a PDF (so nobody could alter it) and then upload it.  I did the exact same thing with the PDF and now I cannot get it to work!!  Please help!!

Hello Tracy,

Can you grant me access to your site so that I can take a look?

Josue

Hello Tracy,

You had it right. The only issue was you had an extra / at the beginning.

(/cas?destination=/sites/default/files/files/Master%20Intro%20SPA%2001_05_2015.pdf)

I’ve removed the / after destination= and now it works.

Hi Josue,

thank you for your response, unfortunately, I’m trying it right now and it doesn’t seem to be working for me.  I just checked it and the page isn’t redirecting properly?

Hello Tracy,

Where is it directing to? Can you close all your browsers and try again? It might be stuck in the browsers history or you might already be logged into CAS so it takes you there without the CAS Screen. I will also refresh the cache in the site. Let me know if that works.

Josue

Hi Josue,

I’ve tried 3 different browsers and none of them work.  It does get me to the CAS page but then I get an error message that says

“This webpage has a redirect loop”  or

“This page isn’t redirecting properly.  Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.”  or

“This page cannot be displayed.”

Hello Tracy,

I’ve enabled the Access Control Module and setup Private Files in your site. This will allow you to upload Private Files which need CAS Login to access. You can find the instructions Here.

All you have to do now is to upload these files though Content > Add Content > Private Files. Then you take the URL that points to your file and insert it in the link in your content. This will automatically request the user to CAS in to access/download the file. Take a look and let me know if this works for you.

Hi Josue,

Thank you for your help, but the instructions on how to do this aren’t clear to me.  I uploaded a file through Content > Add Content > Private Files, but then where do I find the URL for that file that I can insert into the link in my content??

When I insert the URL that I do find- and click on it- then I get an error message- “Access denied.  You are not authorized to access this page.”  I want it to go to the CAS page for people to log in and then see the presentation.  Not sure what I’m doing wrong- but it’s clearly not right!  Please see the Allocating Allowable Costs and Direct Charging of F&A Type Costs modules that I tried to upload (located on researchadministration.yale.edu/educational-opportunities)  Thank you!

Hello Tracy,

Once you’ve added the file as a Private File, you then go to the page the file is shown. You can find it by going to Content, then filtering by content type of Private Files. This will show the list of Private Files. Edit each one to get the URL. If you hover over the File Information, you will see the URL. Right Click and Copy Link Address.

Now you will have the URL needed to put in the /educational-opportunities site.

Let me know if that works for you.
