On the YQI website, they offer the option of subscribing to the YQI seminar calendar, which gets ALL YQI events added to my phone iCal with just one click (and which allows any changes in location, time, etc., to propagate through to my iPhone without my involvement…very helpful!)

Can we add this feature to the Yale Physics seminar calendar? This may already exist…but if you could point me to the right link, and make it easier to find on the Physics web site, that would be great! Thank you.
The calendar on http://physics.yale.edu/calendar is created by a feed from http://calendar.yale.edu/cal/physics/
Thank you,
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
It would be my pleasure to help you. Can you please grant me access to you site? my net id is ar997. I was able to do a little bit of research and a it looks like a module needs to be enable to create the view in order to have Ical displaying on this page. I am in the process on figuring out what module needs to be enable. I will get back to you with this informational and detail steps to get this done.
Thank you for your time
Kind Regards,
Alejandra J Rodriguez
You are all set.
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
Please follow the following steps to add Ical o the Yale Physics seminar calendar.
1) Go to modules and enable the module Date iCal
2) Go to the Calendar tab and hover over the calendar view settings and click edit view
3) On the top bar (once you inside the view settings) one click master then click on add and select feed
4) Under Field Settings, change the path should include a filename ending in .ics (there isn’t a specific URL that should be used, but the path should end in a filename using the .ics extension) Next to attach to, double click on none and then select upcoming
5) The Format option under the Format label should be changed to iCal Feed - click on the RSS feed link and select iCal Feed from the available options. Upon saving, you will automatically be redirected to the Settings options – provide an iCal Calendar Name and click save.
6) Click the first of the Show links and ensure iCal Fields is selected. Upon saving, you will be redirected to the Settings options - configure the field settings (this is basically mapping existing fields to available iCal fields).
Click Apply and Save.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind Regards,
Alejandra Rodriguez
I am unable to do this. When I click on +Add Feed it gives me the message “Changes cannot be made to a locked view. You are not authorized to access this page”
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
The view was locked, looks like it does that automatically as soon as someone is active on it but I was able to unlock the view. Please let me know if you still having any problems. Thank you for your time.
Kind Regards,
Alejandra Rodriguez
I followed the steps but Sean Barrett says it is still not working. Can someone test it on their iPhone and let me know what is going on?
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
My colleague James did some testing on the Physics dev site and it looks like the error was being thrown due to some of the content not containing an appropriate date.
Please follow the following steps.
One of the options when setting Format:
Show > Settings (image 1) has an option to “Skip Blank Dates” (image 2).
Image 1: Click Settings to configure skipping of blank dates.
Image 2: Ensure ‘Skip Blank Dates’ is selected
When this option is selected, the problem appears to be resolved (I can subscribe to the feed in DEV).
I also wanted to suggest adding ‘Description’ and ‘Location’ fields to the Feed view so they can also be mapped (images 3 + 4).
Image 3: Add ‘Body/Description’ and ‘Location’ fields to the new Feed
Image 4: Return to the Show > Settings and configure the Description and Location fields to be mapped to the fields added in the last step.
Let me know if there are any questions or you still having difficulties after trying this so we can set up some office hours. Thanks again!
Thank you for this. We are not longer getting an error message but it has been over an hour and no events are showing up. Is this normal?
Thank you,
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
We were able to fix it. Please take a look at the site, it should be working fine by now. I will personally send you the updated instructions for future reference. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you. It is working fine now. Is there any way I can do an ics feed for a subgroup of the seminars?
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
I believe you had office hours with Josue Rodriguez and he was able to assist you with the last request. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns regarding this.
Thank you for your time.
