Adding an unsupported extension file type

Issue/Request:

I would like to be able to upload a file type to the server is not supported (.rdf).  But when I try to upload them I get an error message “File extension not allowed in this folder.” I will not be linking to these files, but an organization will be scanning the files nightly.

Below is where the files are located:
http://cowles.yale.edu/sites/default/files/files/RePEc/cwl (2 files)
http://cowles.yale.edu/sites/default/files/files/RePEc/cwl/cwldpp (7 files, for now)

Thanks, Glena

Hello Glena,

It seems that you are trying to upload the file type through the WYSIWYG toolbar is that correct? If so, then the reason its failing is because those file extensions are hard coded into the configuration. Your best option would be to add a content type and a file upload field. There you can specify the file type allowed.

I don’t quite understand how that will work. The files I have to load must be in specific folders in order for them to be scanned. I don’t see how I can create the folder structure shown below

RePEc (folder)
   cwl (subfolder)
      cwlarch.rdf (file) - rarely changed
      cwlseri.rdf (file) - rarely changed
      cwldpp (subsubfolder)
t2020-2000.rdf (this folder changes in both name and content often)
          … u - v - w - x - y (these are also updated, but not as often as the first)
          z0575-0001.rdf

Thanks, Glena

Hello Glena,

I already see those folders under the WYSIWYG file browser, however .rdf files cannot be uploaded to those folders. The reason is because the allowed file types have been hard-coded into the configuration.

If you’d like you can do a Feature Request through the forum and it will be forwarded to the Tech Team to see if they can add that functionality.

Josue

Do you think that it is possible? I certainly would make life easier.

Hello Glena,

I will make the request to see if they can add that file type to your site.

Josue

Hello Glena,

We have added that functionality to your site. I’ve requested a site refresh for your site. It should be processed during the next round of deploys which will take place tomorrow night.
