Hello,

I’m trying to add individual blocks to the news section but having difficulty doing so.  I would appreciate phone consultation.

Thanks

Hi Cheryl,

If you’re trying to add a block to the News Page, the solution to this should be a fairly simple one. The block likely needs to be configured to display on the News page. I’ll walk you through the steps here:

In your Administrative Toolbar (the black toolbar appearing at the very top of the page), go to Structure>>Blocks.

If the block you’re trying to display has already been created, you’ll find it in the list displayed on this page, and click the “configure” link to the far right of the block. If not, you can click the “Add Block”  button to create a new one, and add the desired content there.

The place that’s most likely causing your issue is the section at the bottom of the block creation/configuration page: “Region Settings” and “Visibility Settings”.

You’ll want to change the region settings in each drop-down to the desired region, for each theme EXCEPT “Seven (Administrator Theme). If these region are not selected and left set to - None -, they will not not display and be considered Disabled.

(If you don’t know which region name corresponds to which area, a diagram demonstrating this for your current theme can be accessed with the “demonstrate block regions” link, which appears in the blocks page above the “add block button”.)

Once the block regions are set, you need to specify which pages the block displays on using the “Show block on specific pages” section seen above. Select  “Only the listed pages”, and in the text field write news. If you want to display this block on any page in the news section, including sub-pages for individual news items, write news* in this space, with the asterisk.

Once this is finished, hit the Save Block button and view the news page. If this was done successfully, the item should appear on the page.

Let me know if this explanation was helpful to you!

Hi Cheryl,

I just wanted to check in and see if this solution allowed you to solve your problem. Let me know if you still need assistance; if I don’t hear from you soon I’ll assume the issue to be resolved.
