On this page, we have a link to a user guide (Effort Reporting System (ERS) User Guide) which currently just opens up the guide. We need to add the CAS login for this link. Trying to follow your instructions in yalesites does not seem to work, (I must be reading something wrong), can you please explain exactly what I should be putting in the http for the new link to include a CAS login?

Thank you

Hi Danielle,

It’s not possible to have a redirect to CAS for a direct PDF link. If you want to set a PDF to be CAS protected, you will need to upload the PDF as a separate page/content type then casify that page. Were these the directions you were using?

How would I best upload the PDF as its own page?

No, these were the instructions I was trying to follow: http://yalesites.yale.edu/module-tutorials/cas

Yes that’s the only way to do it if you want the PDF to be private. If you look at the instructions in the link I posted before, it will show you how to

  1. Setup the private settings on your site
  2. Create the Content Type,
  3. Use Content Access to protect the page so that only Authenticated Users could access it.

Then you can use the instructions you were working with to create the CAS redirection:

  1. Add the Page URL in the Redirection section of the CAS settings.
  2. Add the URL/link to the page with the protected PDF uploaded.

Just remember not to link directly to the PDF because you can’t force CAS login with a PDF link, only to the link to the page.

The page we’re using is already set up for the private settings and we have one link on there already CAS protected. Can you please clarify… are we not able to have 2 links on one page that require a CAS login?

Hi Danielle,

When I click on http://grants.yale.edu/financial-mgmt/effort-reporting I am not required to log in through CAS. Maybe it’s a different page you are referring to? I will try to call you later this afternoon to discuss. I think that will make it easier to help you.

This was resolved via phone call using the instructions to create a private file content type and link to that page. http://yalesites.yale.edu/book/restrict-access-uploaded-files
