Add new department to already established department list

We already have an established drop down list of departments on our page, however I would like to add some new departments to the list. What is the correct way to go about doing this?

You can add to the Department List by going to Configuration > People > Account Settings > Manage Fields > Department List.

And then what? Am I able to just type in the department list as it shows in IRES?
You then scroll down to Department List Field Settings and add the new department at the bottom of the list following the structure of the other departments on the list.

Josue, I need to remove some of the current department fields and I am trying to modify others, the system does not seem to allow that…? I’ve added them all in newly - though now I have 2 concurrent lists - and my people have disappeared from the sub group listings! Help please!

The Department List, like the People Type are fields that have entries that users are assigned to. Once someone is assigned to it, the only way to edit the entry is by removing the users from it or un-checking them from that category. Drupal would not allow you do edit them if users are presently assigned to them.
The best way to do this is to remove the users from the Department Lists you want to remove first. Then you would go in and delete the Department and add a new one. After you save you should be able to re-add those users to the New Departments. I would also recommend doing one department at a time to avoid confusion as to what department people belong in. I hope this helps.

Is there a report to run or some way of double checking who is assigned to the department list? I actually went through manually and removed all the departments from all our people and the department fields will still not update…
