Issue/Request:
Hello,
I was wondering if it was possible to create a link from the main menu to a certain place on a page. I would like to add a “Quick Links” to the main menu that takes people directly to our “Quick Links” block further down the page.
Thanks!
Kristen
Hi Kristen,
Take a look at these instructions in the YaleSites How to Guide: http://yalesites.yale.edu/book/add-links. On this page, scroll down to the section that says “Creating a link to a location on a current page (anchors)”. Follow these instructions and you should be fine.
Let me know if you get stuck.
Best regards,
Carris
Hi Carris,
I’m stuck. I’m not sure how to create a new menu item without having a page to link to. And I can’t tell if it is possible to have the Quick links block be the anchor or if I need to use one of the links in the block to be the anchor. Thanks for your help.

Hi Kristen,
I am a little confused about what item you want to link to where. Can I call you? We can talk through it, if you are available.
Best regards,
Carris
Hi, Kristen:
It was nice to chat with you today. Try some of the suggestions about menu design that I gave you, but if your constituency still wants the anchors, let me know.
Best regards,
Carris
Hi Carris,
We would like to add a Quick Links with a drop down menu to the menu bar. I’m happy to do it if you could tell me how. Or if it’s easier for you to just do it, that’s ok too.
Once that is added, would you recommend keeping the Quick Links block on the home page or deleting that?
Again, no rush. Thanks for all your help and suggestions!
Kristen
Hi, Kristen:
Here is the link to the page in the How To Guide that shows how to add to the main menu: http://yalesites.yale.edu/book/working-menus.
Just remember what I said about the item called Quick Links, it has to link to something, so choose a child link (usually the first child item) and make the menu heading link to the same URL. I know this is redundant, but it works.
I would not keep the Quick links block in Sidebar2, I think that it makes things confusing. People will expect the information in the block to be different than the information in the main menu item and its not. Maybe, just disable the block for now and see how it goes. This way, if you change your mind, you won’t have to rebuild it.
Best regards,
Carris
Hi Carris,
I added the drop down menu and removed the block. So far, everyone seems to be happy with it. Thanks for all your help!
