Getting a view of a new content types to dispaly in a new main menu link

I created a new main menu feature Event Profiles that is supposed to display my new content type Event Profile. I created a basic view to show all content with the type Event Profile which I want to display when someone clicks the Event Profiles menu. I have referred to the yalesites support and training as well as lynda.com and still cannot get it to work. I feel as if I missing something rather basic which is frustrating me immensely. I am doing this in my dev site but as soon as I get it to work I will implement it in my actual site. I have created only 1 content type of Event Profile  so far.
