Three Questions: People Order, URL Redirect, Password Prompt

Hi!

I presently have three issues with our YaleSite (intergroup.yale.edu) that I cannot figure out myself. I previously worked on this with Marwa Khaboor, who was very helpful, but since she is no longer with ITS, I hope someone else can assist me.

1. We set up the “People” page with a custom order, such that members of our lab are listed first by type (director, postdocs, grad students, etc.), then by seniority (but only within the grad students type, such that fifth-years are shown on top and first-years are shown at the bottom of the section), and finally alphabetically by last name. This works very well on the main view. Unfortunately, however, the ordering gets messed up when navigating to one of the people type categories using the task bar on the left. For example, when I navigate to “Graduate Students,” Julian Rucker (a first-year student) is on top, followed by Aaron Santascoy (a fifth-year student) etc. In short, what I would like to achieve is for the order of people to behave according to the logic specified above, regardless of whether one browses the main people page, or on one of the subpages defined by people type.

2. Our “Publications” page actually has three subcategories (Articles, Chapters, and Other). By default, visitors get forwarded to the articles page when clicking on the “Publications” link. However, when navigating to intergroup.yale.edu/publications, there is no auto-forward. I would therefore like to set up a URL redirect from intergroup.yale.edu/publications to intergroup.yale.edu/publications/articles. Because the latter is a view, not a basic page, I don’t know how to accomplish this.

3. We have a password-protected internal section on our site that allows our lab members to access it even when not logged into CAS. When accessing it, I’m always prompted for my password twice – first when I go to the landing page of the internal section, and then a second time when I navigate to one of the subpages. How can I change the site’s behavior such that the password is prompted only once?

Thank you so much for your help!
Fabian

Hello,

I still have not heard back from YaleSites – any chance I could get assistance with the three questions above? Thank you so much!

Fabian

Hi Fabian,

I would be more than happy to  help you. I’m going to take a look at those issues that you listed. Can you please give me administrator access to your site to explore those issues ? My net ID is ar997.

Thank you for your time.

Best

Hi Alejandra,

Thanks for getting back to me! I just gave you administrator rights. I look forward to working with you – you can also get in touch by email (firstname.lastname@yale.edu)

Thanks so much – Fabian

Hi Fabian,

Sounds great I will take a look at the site now. I will keep you posted !

Thank you for your time

Hi Fabian ,

I have been exploring the site and the issues you experiencing. The reason why Graduate students (people page) is not sorting  correctly is because it needs to have its own personal view. I can clone the current view we have and duplicate a personal view for graduate students. 2) Publications has been redirected to publication article page. 3) Can you please share your password (internal) with me, you can send it to me through email ( alejandra.rodriguez@yale.edu ) for security reasons. I just want to have the password to test it and make sure that the change I make works effectively. Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Alejandra Rodriguez

Hi Fabian,

I prompted the site password for only one time. The problem was that the “administration and the “How to” sections with their respective sub pages were password protected and that is why it asked you to put your password twice.

I manually went to each page and scrolled all the way to the bottom, and Unchecked ”This Basic page is protected” option under the “Password Protect this Basic Page” Category

Now the only page that is password protected is  ”Internal” which protects all the other pages at once and only with a one time password. I tested it and everything seems to be working fine.

I will only ask you to be very cautious when making any changes to the protected nodes section.  If you go to Configuration > content authoring> protected node If for any reason you would like to change the Global Password Handling , make sure that you protect all the pages that you want to be password protected before doing so (the pages that I unchecked) . Otherwise removing the global password when many pages were not otherwise assigned a password will make those nodes unaccessible.

Hi Fabian,

We are currently working on the site’s people’s page. Can I please have access to you dev site dev.intergroup.yale.edu, my net id is ar997. Thank you

Hi Fabian,

We were able to resolve the people’s page issue. Now the seniority is sorted by year which is a most effective way of sorting because it will automatically update as the years go by. It was a pleasure to help you. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else. Otherwise I will consider this as resolved.

Best ,
