People page removal
When removing people from our site who have moved on to bigger and better things, I’ve found that a couple of these people pages were still findable via a Google search:
(The URL listed above is one example out of many where we have experienced this problem - the rest are below).
Hindy Najman: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/hindy-najman
Devin Singh: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/devin-singh
Stephen Ogden: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/stephen-ogden
Ellen Gough: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/ellen-gough
Alexandra Kaloyanides: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/alexandra-kaloyanides
Sarah Koenig: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/sarah-koenig
Shari Rabin: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/shari-rabin
Sara Ronis: http://religiousstudies.yale.edu/people/sara-ronis
When I take a look at all of our users/people, they aren’t included in the list. Is there a way to fix this, and how we ensure this doesn’t happen again when going to remove people profiles?
Many thanks for your kind help,
Heather
Hello Heather,
There are two parts to this issue. The first is the indexing by google. Since the pages existed before, it’ll be a while before google re-indexes your site and removes them from the listing. One solution is to add google analytics, then associate your site to Google Webmaster Tools (No named Google Search Console) and submitting a reindexing of your site. Unfortunately Google doesn’t have a set time for indexing sites but I do know they index the whole internet about once a month, sometimes every few months.
The second issue is the bug you found. If you type any name /people/anyname. It will generate the page and show “No people to display”. We will look into this bug and resolve it. Thanks for pointing it out.
I will escalate this to the tech team.
