Adding and Editing People Types

Issue/Request:
Hello,
I am having trouble editing and managing two things:
1) People Type
I am trying to add a new people type to this section titled “YHI Team.” Similar to the other pages this category will only contain CAS users who work for our initiative; however I do not know how to create this new people type.
2) Alumni: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/alumni
The strange this is that the alumni list is being updated here: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people, but this list is completely different from this page: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/alumni. Is there a way to sync the two because I need all the names from both pages?
Thank you so much!
Have a great weekend,
Priyankar
Hello Priyankar,
To edit the people type field you’d go to Configuration > People > Account Settings > Manage Fields > People Type. This will take you to the People Type Field Settings. There you can edit the people type and add new people types. Once you save your settings they should be available to be set for users and people listed in the site.
The view in http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/alumni contains people that are listed as Non-CAS Users. In order for both lists to match you need to assign those people the Alumni people type and change the view to show people type of Alumni. It currently shows Content Type: Non-CAS Users. So you would need to change the Filter Criteria to People Type and assign to Alumni. I hope that helps.

Dear Josue,
I was able to add the new people type “YHI Team”. I even added 4 existing CAS users to the people type. However, I am not sure how to make the page live or where the page is for the “YHI team” people type.
Additionally, the configuration page for people type says, “There is data for this field in the database. The field settings can no longer be changed.”
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for all the help so far!
Sincerely,
Priyankar
Hello Priyankar,
That just means that you need to update the Filter Criteria in the views to also show the People Type you just added. Go to Structure > Views > People (User). There you must make the edit in both in the People Page and the Dynamic People Type Listing. The update is as follows. Go to Filter Criteria and update the People Type by also selecting YHI Team.
The error you describes just means that once you’ve entered a people type and added someone to it, it cant be modified. You’d have to take the person off the people type before deleting the people type or modifying it. Let me know if that works.
Josue
Dear Josue,
I tried to do as you recommended however I am still facing the same issue. The YHI team page is still not showing up.
Thanks for all the help so far!
Best,
Priyankar
Dear Josue,
I was slightly mistaken. The YHI team page shows up here: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people
But there is neither a separate tab for it on the people menu bar, not is listed on the people side panel here: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/steering-committee
Thanks,
Priyankar
Hi Josue,
So I have almost figured everything out. I think there are only 2 issues I need help with:
1) The Yale Himalaya Team page is live now, but there is one problem. The page: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/yale-himalaya-team
does not have the same people block displayed on the left margin as other people pages such as: http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/steering-committee
How do I make the people block appear on the people page?
2) For Alumni, I would like to add the Non CAS users to the Alumni people type. However, I do not know where to go to edit Non Cas Users. Where is the Non CAS user editing page?
Thank you,
Priyankar
Hello Priyankar,
The reason the menu was not showing was because you had the full URL instead of just the path people/yale-himalaya-team on the menu links. I’ve fixed it for you.
There is no separate section for CAS users. When you click on People in the Administration Menu, you will find everybody there. The CAS users will have their NetID listed under the CAS Usernames column and the ones that are non-CAS will have that field empty. You would edit them the same way you would edit any other user.
I hope this helps.
Josue
Dear Josue,
The YHI team page is perfect now!
However, I am still having trouble editing NON CAS users. When I go to the people page on administration I can only view people with a NetID. No one listed on this page http://himalaya.yale.edu/people/alumni is visible for me. How would I go about editing people listed on the alumni page then?
Thank you,
Priyankar
Hello Priyankar,
The problem is that the Non-CAS Users were not entered into the site as People Type. They were entered as a Content Type. This however will not work with the current People Pages the way they are setup. You would have to reenter them through People > Add User in the Administration Menu, this would then put them in the list along all other people/users in the site and you can assign the People Type of Alumni or whatever you want to set it to. This would them make the current view in /people/alumni unnecessary as the page would be just like all the other People Type views.
