Taking Pages Offline

Issue/Request:
I’m trying to unpublish some pages on our website that were built as taxonomy terms and shouldn’t be live. I don’t want to delete them - just make them not visible/searchable on Google.

I saw basic instructions on how to take the entire site offline… but I definitely don’t want to do that. Just those specific pages.

Here is an example of a page I’d like to take offline/put into draft form: http://world.yale.edu/country/turkey

Hello Isadora,

Let me see if I understand your request. You would like to make the Country Taxonomy Terms (Brazil, China, Ghana, India, ETC.) hidden correct? I did not see any way of drilling into this content, even from the regions menu so it would just be a matter of making sure the page doesn’t get indexed by Google.

Josue

Josue,

How I keep the pages from getting indexed by Google?

Hello Isadora,

I was trying to check another module to turn off taxonomy term pages but it was not working properly. As an alternative, I’ve enabled the Metatags Module which allows you to set options to certain pages and request they not be indexed as well as other options. This should prevent the Country Taxonomy Pages to now be indexed by Google. You should be all set.

Josue

Josue,

If I Google search “Yale world turkey,” the Turkey country page still comes up. (http://world.yale.edu/country/turkey) I’m not sure why. What else can I do?

Also we would like to keep this Brazil country page live (http://world.yale.edu/brazil) and hide the rest (below)

The pages will remain indexed until the next site crawl. Google usually crawls about once a month, but there is no set schedule they follow so sometimes sites wont be crawled for over a month. Since the site was already crawled in the past, we’d have to wait until the next crawl for Google to get the command to not follow the pages.

Unfortunately this option sets for all items under that taxonomy category and would not allow to exclude one. At the current time no other module provides the functionality to hide/display taxonomy pages or prevent indexing.

Josue

Josue,

Thanks. To clarify - the page I want live is world.yale.edu/brazil NOT world.yale.edu/country/brazil. Since other country pages are under world.yale.edu/country/name - world.yale.edu/brazil should be fine, correct?

That is correct. You should be all set now. If we come up with an alternative way of hiding the pages I will communicate the option to you.

Josue

Thank you!
